Australian holidays will continue to be popular throughout 2021, with people from all demographics looking to head Down Under for what is potentially a once in a lifetime experience. Fitting in all of Australia’s beauty in a short time is impossible, even people who live in the country their whole lives will likely only ever experience a small part of it.
With time against you and so much to see, we explored the greatest locations for Australian travel over the next 12 months and outlined just why you need to take advantage of them during your trip. Given that we will shortly be heading into the southern winter, we looked at two options for the coming months, and two for the end of the year when the temperatures rise once more.
A trip to Darwin in the winter is great because you aren’t waiting for the temperatures to rise, they are relatively constant the whole year thanks to the city’s location firmly within the tropic of Capricorn. As an added bonus, most of the Northern Territory also benefits from such great weather, although tropical storms can be common during the winter months.
While the city and the surrounding area are stunning, two of the best landmarks, Uluru, and Kakadu National Park, require you to drive outside of the city. Kakadu is relatively close, and although it can be done in a day the sheer size of the area means it’s often worth dedicating longer too. Uluru is a definite multi-day drive, but with the weather so great it is an absolute must.
By contrast, the Australian Alps in the south-eastern corner of the country see a huge amount of snowfall during the winter months. Not many people consider Australia as a heavyweight skiing resort, but that is definitely what the Alps are in the winter. There are great ski stations and slopes situated across the range, and if an Australian winter adventure holiday is what you are looking for, there is no better place.
In the summer months, Melbourne is one of the most vibrant cities on the planet. It already enjoys a great reputation for diversity and a wide range of activities, and this is on full display during the summer months. The parks of the city are perfect whether you are taking a quick break from sightseeing or just planning to spend a lazy day laying on a blanket, while some of the country’s best sports teams are based in the city, offering a brilliant idea for a day out.
Taking a Drive
There are fewer things better than driving across Australia during the summer months. Whether you are exploring the big cities such as Sydney and Brisbane or driving cross-country to Perth while stopping off in Australia’s best wine valleys, an Australian road trip will open your eyes to as much beauty and inspiration as you can possibly handle.
Just make sure you have a plan, however, or you will quickly find yourself spending days on hidden beaches and find your time running short before you know it.
Heading to Australia is a great experience at all times of the year, know the best places to go and you will find yourself having a trip to remember.
